Sports Tipping

Tipping competitions sit alongside the sports markets. Each is a month of one league: pay a flat entry, pick the winner of every fixture, and the top three share the pool. There are no odds to weigh up, only picks.

Entering

  • A competition opens for a league a few days before its first fixture of the month, once The Odds API lists at least four games for that month. Leagues that are out of season, or down to a single final, get no competition.
  • The entry fee is a flat 25 HIVE, sent to the platform account with the hivepredict_tipping_enter operation. Entries close at the first kick-off of the month. Late joiners wait for next month.
  • If fewer than five people have entered when entries close, every entry fee is refunded and the competition is marked refunded.

Tipping

  • Every fixture offers home or away, plus the draw in soccer leagues. Tips are saved with a posting-key operation and can be changed until kick-off. A missed fixture scores nothing.
  • One point for each correct tip. Fixture results come from The Odds API final scores. A drawn match in a league without a draw pick, or a fixture still without a result three days after kick-off, is left out of the scoring.
  • Where the platform has also opened a market on the same fixture, the pool odds sit beside each side and you can back your tip with a stake.

Prizes

  • The pool is every entry fee added together. A 5% platform fee comes off first, then 50% goes to first, 30% to second and 20% to third.
  • Ranking is competition style. Entrants on the same points share the prize money for the places they cover: two people tied for first split the first and second prizes equally.
  • Last place takes the wooden spoon, a badge on their profile and nothing else. If the whole field ties, nobody gets it. Winning a competition earns the tipping champion badge.
  • Settlement is an on-chain operation from the platform account carrying the fixture results, so a full reindex reproduces every ladder and every payout. Prizes are paid as transfers like any other payout.

Tipping prizes do not count towards the market leaderboards or the dashboard profit figure, which stay market only.
